If you’re planning a visit to the Acropolis, it’s good to know when it’s open — so you don’t miss a thing!

The Acropolis opens every day at 8:00 in the morning, all year long.
But the closing time changes during the year, depending on the season.

Here’s a simple guide to help you:


🌞 Spring & Summer (April 1 – August 31)

🕗 Open from 08:00 to 20:00
🕢 Last entry at 19:30
This is the longest schedule! Great if you want to visit early or enjoy the sunset.


🍂 Early Fall (September 1 – 15)

🕗 Open from 08:00 to 19:30
🕖 Last entry at 19:00


🍁 Mid Fall (September 16 – 30)

🕗 Open from 08:00 to 19:00
🕠 Last entry at 18:30


🍂 October (October 1 – 15)

🕗 Open from 08:00 to 18:30
🕔 Last entry at 18:00


🍂 Late October (October 16 – 31)

🕗 Open from 08:00 to 18:00
🕓 Last entry at 17:30


📅 Holiday Closures

The Acropolis is closed on the following holidays, so plan your visit accordingly:

  • 1 January (New Year’s Day)
  • 25 March (Greek Independence Day)
  • 1 May (Labor Day)
  • Easter Sunday (Orthodox Easter)
  • 25 December (Christmas Day)
  • 26 December (Boxing Day)

✅ A Good Tip!

Try to arrive at least 1 hour before closing time. That way, you’ll have time to walk around, take photos, and enjoy the amazing views without rushing!

⚠️ Important Notices (July 2025)

🚫 July 25 to July 27, 2025:
The Acropolis will be closed between 12:00 and 17:00 due to high temperatures. This is for everyone’s safety.

The North Slope of the Acropolis will stay open from 09:00 to 18:00 during this period.

🚻 Toilets inside the site are under renovation. Please use the toilets:

  • 👉 On the right side of the main entrance (permanent)
  • 👉 On the left side (chemical toilets)
    before you enter the site.

🧭 Visitor Tips

✅ Arrive at least 1 hour before closing so you can explore without rushing.
✅ Wear good walking shoes — the ground is uneven in places.
✅ Bring water, but no food is allowed inside.


🚫 What’s Not Allowed at the Acropolis

To protect this ancient place, the following rules apply:

  • ❌ No food, drinks, or smoking
  • ❌ No littering
  • ❌ No touching or removing stones, plants, or anything else
  • ❌ No loud, rude, or disrespectful behavior
  • ❌ No photos or videos that are inappropriate
  • ❌ No pets (only guide dogs are allowed)

Also:

  • Please follow signs and stay on marked paths
  • Always listen to security staff
  • Be extra careful in areas where work is being done
  • Not following the rules may lead to being asked to leave the site
